Three roles and how to enter
Student, teacher, and organization login identities; organization side includes Organization admin and optional academic admin.
DodoSpeak uses one App login page with three identities: student, teacher, organization.
You can open it in a browser, PWA, or Android/iOS App (see Devices and access).
If you use DodoSpeak Oral (embeddable speaking) instead of this App, Oral Console roles are learner / publisher / manager / developer. See How to use Oral Console.
Day-to-day teaching uses student / teacher. Choosing Organization opens the organization console—the account may be an Organization admin or an optional academic admin. The login page does not add a fourth identity tab; permissions follow the account. Some older copy may still say “class admin”—that means the same role as academic admin.
On desktop, use the left main nav; on phone / narrow screens, use the bottom tab bar. Both show the same items in the same order. Below we call both “main nav.”
Role map (current main nav)
| Role | Main entry | Required? | Main nav (order; UI wins) | Typical capabilities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Student | App login (choose Student) | Teaching essential | Home / Space / Speaking / Records / Me | Space tasks and suggestions, self practice, Speaking to-dos, Speaking tasks, Multi-party dialogue, Speaking exams, and textbook lessons, progress and error book; Messages live under Me |
| Teacher | App login (choose Teacher) | Teaching essential | Home / Space / Tasks / Reports / Me | Run Space (members / pair practice / challenges) and class management, assign practice and exams, class learning reports; Reports has three tabs (Class / Export·reports / Trends·curve); Speaking exam via Tasks dual CTA or Me → More (secondary); Messages under Me |
| Organization admin | App login (choose Organization) | Usually one owner after org is live | Home / Messages / Settings / Me | Trial wrap-up and overview; teaching messages (main-nav Messages); top-level Settings opens the config hub (Organization & intake, Plan & usage, import, logs, branding, Speaking & exams, and more); Me has profile, account actions, and notifications; can add academic admins under Manage team |
| Academic admin | App login (choose Organization) | No (as needed) | Home / Messages / Classes / Reports / Me | Within scope: create/copy classes, roster care, close class (continue learning / leave school), Reports three tabs (Class leans operational); main-nav Messages matches org admin; Me has profile and notifications; Me → More can reach export/curves; Me → Settings for personal notifications and retention; cannot change org-level policy / branding / plan, and cannot manage the team |
Organization admins add academic admins—see Manage team: add academic admins. How Organization admins find settings: App settings: entry and layers.
Student: inside Speaking
After Speaking, four sub-pages open (default To-do):
Self practice · To-do · Speaking tasks · Multi-party dialogue · Speaking exam
Details: Speaking tabs overview.
Teacher: Tasks · Reports · more tools (do not mix)
| Entry | Where | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks | Main nav | Assign and manage practice tasks (CTA: Assign speaking task / Assign speaking exam); published list can filter “speaking practice / speaking exam” |
| Reports | Main nav | Default Class; same page tabs Export / reports, Trends / curve |
| Export / reports | Reports tab (Home “Export / reports”, Me → More secondary) | Preview academic report templates; export CSV / print PDF |
| Trends / curve | Reports tab (Home “Trends / curve”, Me → More secondary) | Task completion trends (by class / month) |
| Speaking exam | Tasks dual CTA (primary); Me → More (secondary) | Dedicated page to assign and manage formal speaking exams |
| Messages | Inside Me; top-bar envelope opens Me | Teaching inbox |

Organization admin: Settings hub and Me
Organization admin top-level nav has four items: Home · Messages · Settings · Me. Directory, import, plan, logs, branding, and so on are not top-level sidebar items—they open from Settings entry groups (see App settings: entry and layers). Messages is a dedicated inbox page; Me holds profile, account actions, and in-app notifications (messages are not repeated under Me). Home can also shortcut into Export / reports and Trends / curve (landing on Reports tabs).
academic admin: classes and Reports at top level
Academic admin top-level has five fixed items: Home · Messages · Classes · Reports · Me. Day-to-day class ops and reports are one tap away; Reports three tabs match teachers, but Class leans create/close ops (see Organization & academic: Reports). Not finding plan / branding / practice-policy editors is expected.
Is academic admin required?
No. A small pilot can run with only Organization admin + teachers / students. When several people need different class scopes and shared class ops, the Organization admin adds academic admins under Manage team and assigns manageable classes.
Login tips
- Open the App login page, choose identity (student / teacher / organization), then enter account and password.
- For Organization: use the Organization admin or academic admin email and password; if the account can manage multiple orgs, pick the target org at login.
- After SaaS trial signup, email or the success page may offer quick login links (student / teacher / Organization admin) that skip the login form.
- Forgot password: students / teachers ask Organization admin or academic admin; academic admin accounts ask Organization admin to reset. Private deploy login URLs come from the organization.
- Speaking practice needs microphone permission; Organization admin work is easier in a desktop browser.
Messages and notifications
In-app Messages (teaching inbox) and Notifications (task reminders, etc.) differ by role—see Messages and notifications.
