Goal: Find the right place quickly. Remember: check To-do for assignments; use Self practice for extra practice.

Three things to decide

  1. Where to practice: choose one of the five Speaking tabs.
  2. What to practice: in Self practice, choose a practice mode and scenario.
  3. How to speak: choose Talk live, Tap to talk, or Review & send; tap Start session before you speak.

The five Speaking tabs

Student main navigation → Speaking.

TabWhen to use it

Multi-party dialogueComplete tasks with multiple roles taking turns
Speaking examTake a mock or formal speaking exam

Recommended paths

You have an assignment

  1. Open Speaking → To-do.
  2. Select a task; the app opens Speaking tasks, Multi-party dialogue, or Speaking exam.
  3. Choose an available speaking method and follow the page instructions.

You want to practice on your own

  1. Open Speaking → Self practice.
  2. Choose a practice mode and, when needed, a scenario.
  3. Choose Talk live, Tap to talk, or Review & send, then tap Start session.

If your organization has not enabled self practice, complete a teacher assignment or contact your teacher.

Multi-party dialogue and speaking exams

  • Links from To-do or notifications usually open the matching task directly.
  • If you open either tab directly and no task is selected, select one from the in-page list first.
  • Exams are answered question by question; available speaking methods depend on the exam page.
