Self practice: modes and scenarios
Choose the practice type, topic context, and speaking method in Self practice.

In Speaking → Self practice:
- Practice mode = the type and rules of this practice: “what kind of practice.”
- Practice scenario = the topic or situation: “what to talk about.”
- Speaking method = Talk live, Tap to talk, or Review & send: “how to speak.”
Order of use
- Choose a practice mode.
- Choose a practice scenario when needed.
- Choose Talk live / Tap to talk / Review & send.
- Tap Start session, then begin.
After changing the mode, wait briefly while the new content loads.
Common practice modes

Your organization may make only some modes available.
Oral (Console / embedded practice surface): the practice-mode dropdown is fixed to Free speaking and Scenario practice only—no voice dialogue, roleplay, pronunciation drill, or exam-prep from the table above. The speaking stage and session steps still match the student app; see Learner: start speaking.
Why is the scenario selector disabled?
Pre-exam quick practice is organized by question type, so no additional scenario is needed. A disabled selector is expected, not an error.
Why don’t I see English, Japanese, and Chinese scenarios together?
Scenarios are filtered by your target language. For Japanese, you only see Japanese scenes. Mixed EN/JA/ZH in one list is not expected.
Keyword hints
A collapsed Keyword hints chip may appear on the stage. Expand it for usable words. Words follow the scenario’s target language, not the UI language. Collapsed by default is expected.
Changing content while Talk live is active
When you change the mode or scenario, the app:
- ends the current live conversation automatically;
- shows a short notice;
- loads the new practice content.
You do not need to end it first, and no confirmation dialog appears.
Teacher tasks
When you enter from To-do / Speaking tasks / Multi-party dialogue / Speaking exam, your teacher has usually set the mode and scenario. Choose an available speaking method and follow the task.
